Angling and related

Coch-y-Bonddu Books

One of the best - if not the best - sites in which to find angling books. Includes what for the time being are sales and distribution of my own The Other Side of the Stream (1998) and Sketches with Fishing Rods (2008). Extensive list, including rare and hard-to-find titles. Worldwide shipping.

Go Fly Fishing UK

Guiding and fly-fishing tuition in the Yorkshire Dales and elsewhere. I fished with Steve Rhodes in the Dales in autumn 2009 and 2010 while we were constructing features for Trout and Salmon, and thoroughly recommend his company and expertise.

Grayling Society

Society devoted to angling for and conservation of the grayling. International membership.

Harris Sportsmail

Excellent service from this UK company

John Norris of Penrith

Tackle and clothes from John Norris (on-line store). I've been dealing with this tackle shop since 1985, and even spent my first-ever royalty cheque here....

Ken Whelan's website

Excellent website from Ken Whelan, eminent angler, fishery scientist and consultant.

Salmon and Trout Association

The S&TA has robust policies on e.g. salmon-farming and environmental management and is an important umbrealla organisation and pressure group for all game anglers based in (and around) the UK.

Stephen Fawcett

Fly-fishing tackle and clothing. Fawcetts of Lancaster offer a courteous, scrupulous and knowledgeable service. Thoroughly recommended.

Books and journals

Amazon Books

A site that should need no introduction. Books - new, second-hand, pristine or slightly foxed. Worldwide delivery. Great site.

Cambridge University Press

Cambridge University Press (CUP) are one of the oldest academic publishers in the world. On this site you may browse their academic catalogue, look at the range of their journals, and also purchase textbooks, monographs, and so on. You can access some of Chris's work (largely material on phonology or metrics) by typing 'McCully' into the CUP Search box.

Carcanet Press

Carcanet maintain what is probably the best poetry list in Europe, if not the world. You may purchase any of their poetry list by using this link, read poetry, add current events to your diary, and also access the web pages of PNReview

Jessica Kingsley Publishers

Jessica Kingsley Publishers specialise in the production of books relating to counselling, social work, psychology, and mental health. You may browse their catalogue here, and buy books on-line.

John Rylands Library - Special Collections

This link will take you to the Special Collections of the John Rylands University Library of Manchester. After opening the page, click on the link to 'literary archives' if you wish to see some of the collections of archival papers falling under the remit of the Modern Literary Archives Project.

Medlar Press

Great publisher of angling titles old and new.

Trout and Salmon magazine

The largest-circulation game fishing magazine in Europe, and one that celebrated its 50th year of publication in 2006.

Waterlog magazine

The editors of Waterlog - 'the greatest angling journal of all time' - have been kind to me over the past few years. On this site you can read excerpts from some of the splendid articles the journal runs, and can search back numbers of the journal by clicking on the 'Archive' button. There you will find fragments of some of my own neglected masterpieces, including 'Casting at the garden gnome' (2005), 'The sex life of the freshwater mussel' (2010) and 'Pike, gherkins and the ant' (2011).

Universities

University of Essex

From September 2013.

University of Manchester

The place I worked until 2003, and a university with which I still have links.

Web Design

WebGuild Media Ltd

I receive numerous comments from home and abroad about my website and among them are many enquiries about my web designers - WebGuild Media Ltd. Their websites are easy to use and there are small systems like the one which runs my site and those of other individuals such as, Iain Bamforth, Andrew Waterman, and Michael Schmidt, to big systems that run the sites of PN Review and Carcanet Press.

All this comes at a fraction of the cost of other web-design packages. It’s worth noting that individuals can often recoup the very modest outlay for the WebGuild system within a year (or even six months) of setting up the site - indeed, I did myself, through freelance commissions resulting from such a visible web presence.
