2006 brought a commission to do a book for Edinburgh University Press on English metrics (including the non-metrics of free verse). Plan is to begin writing this in 2008 - a mere year later than planed. It'll take me three years to do, so the projected publication date will be in 2011.

The book will be in three parts - essentially, on the old alliterative line; on the pentameter; and on the different varieites of free verse. I suppose, too, that my experiences of writing in all of these forms, and/or translating from them, will feature in, or at least underlie, the finished text.

It is a form of gainful employment. And if I say that last sentence quickly enough, I might even believe it.
